What is wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass, with its radiant green color, is a real power plant. It is full of vitamins, minerals (read my article about minerals HERE) and the green color already indicates it: wheatgrass is rich in chlorophyll.
As you probably know, chlorophyll is the green pigment in all leafy greens and vegetables. Chlorophyll is vital for a process known as photosynthesis. This process allows plants to absorb energy from sunlight.
Humans can benefit from chlorophyll in the way that it is a good antioxidant. It helps to prevent inflammation in your body and supports healthy digestion.

Compared to wheat, wheatgrass is gluten-free. That makes it a perfect superfood for people with gluten sensitivity. Wheatgrass contains a lot of essential amino acids. They can´t be produced by our body and therefore they have to be consumed with food.
As you can see in the table above wheatgrass is a perfect source for a lot of vitamins and minerals (**the number of vitamins and minerals can vary with the quality of the product**). With all these nutrients you get a good support for your digestion.
The grass has also positive effects on blood pressure, blood sugar levels, clear skin and healthy hair.
Wheatgrass and fitness
Wheatgrass can possibly improve your fitness.
It contains protein, which helps with muscle mass building. But more interesting is the big variety of B Vitamins. They are a set of different water-soluble vitamins, referred to as “Vitamin B Complex“. These vitamins are vital for several functions in the metabolism when nutrients are converted into energy.
Additional roles are the involvement in muscle contractions and transmitting nerve signals.
Physical activity (fitness) is a form of stress (even if it is positive stress) which creates free radicals. Wheatgrass is an antioxidant and can bind free radicals. This way our cells are protected from damage. We will additionally support a faster recovery.
Some people complain about the “grassy” taste. But that´s the taste of pure nature and health. When you add artificial sweeteners and different tastes to it, the health benefits get lost and what´s the point of that?! Once you get used to the taste it is actually really good and your body benefits from the green supergrass in so many ways.
